Be generous with your lives

We are putting up our Easter cross in our yard tomorrow for neighbors and friends to come by to add flowers. I called Trader Joe's on a whim yesterday to ask if they would be willing to donate some flowers (as they had donated a few bouquets this year), and they said YES! I ran over there this morning, and then I ran home carrying four beautiful bouquets of flowers to have on our cross tomorrow.  (That must have been a bit of a strange sight to see a runner bounding down the street with bunches of flowers!) 


I was so thankful for their generosity, and it reminded me of this passage from The Message to pray with you in mind today..... 

 Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand - shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

May your already generous heart continue to be generous with others so that your light will shine bright and others will see God's love in and through you.

  I read this early this morning, and I thought it was so perfect for my prayer for you today.  It's been a long year with Covid-19, with lockdowns, with so many things delayed, with challenging family dynamics at times, with school being different, and whatever else comes to mind when you look back at this crazy year. As you look ahead to things getting more and more "back to normal," I am praying for you to have this "glory-strength" to stick it out for the long haul. Just like the picture I shared with you the other day from the Jesus Storybook Bible , may you turn to God and run to Him with everything that comes your way with this strength God give you.  p.s.  Verse 12 is good to take with you too:  "It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us."

Scout

Anna has been working on a senior project choreographing dances to two songs, and I got to see her run through of them in the studio yesterday. We were brainstorming where we will film the final dances and thought about a spot on UW campus and a spot by the Arboretum, so I charted my run this morning to be able to scout them out for her.  grassy area near UW-- while we don't want to have the  random vehicle there, we hope that we can use this spot!  beautiful grassy area by Lake WA near the Arboretum  This whole idea of scouting a place out reminded me of this verse from Deuteronomy 31:8 that says, "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."  May you know that God does indeed go before you in your life, and may this bring you peace, comfort, and hope for the days ahead.

Trail Markers

On Saturday when we were running in the race, there were neon pink ribbons tied all along the course so that we would not get lost on the way. Several people spent days flagging over 30 miles of trail.  It made me grateful for people and events in our lives that are markers for us and that point the way on the trail before us. For me, I know that both your mom and dad have served as trail markers in my own life--- pointing me back to God's grace again and again and being faithful friends who pray for me and love me well. I am praying that God will give you deep friendships and mentors through the years ahead who can be those trail markers for you and who can help you find your way.
